 Greg Nicotero watched “Kill Bill” for inspiration before directing this episode. Greg says, “This is the first time in the entire series we see Michonne happy. She is in her element.”

“I think its Rick changed so much in tonight’s episode. When he shoves that guy out into the yard, he could have just.. speared him through the head if he was like ‘I gotta kill this guy’. A clear choice was made to spend a lot of screentime on him reacting to what he had just done.”
